The Waxahachie Daily Light endorsed U.S. Congressman Ron Paul, R-Texas, today in the GOP presidential race.
I’ve had numerous, numerous objections to their news coverage and their bias towards certain establishment (local) politicians – and it’s okay to agree to disagree – but the WDL deserves a nice pat on the back for this endorsement. It’s totally unexpected – at least from my end – but it’s a good sign. Ron Paul is the guy I’m voting for on March 4 (I’ll support the GOP nominee no matter who it is), but to have the WDL come out in support of the Barry Goldwater of the 21st Century is amazing.

Ron PaulIn the race for the Republican nomination for the president of the United States, the one candidate we feel offers America’s best hope for much needed change is Texas Congressman Ron Paul.
While candidates in both parties have seized upon the message of change, in reality, with the exception of one candidate, the change being promised is a shift from one special interest group to another.
Ron Paul is the only true candidate of change.
Largely ignored by the mainstream media, he has trailed the GOP frontrunners in the initial primaries. He has been labeled as a “radical” by the established political guard in Washington. They fear his message because they know, if Paul is elected, things will change in D.C.
When Thomas Jefferson framed the U.S. Constitution, he envisioned a limited, representative form of government that served the general needs of “we the people of the United States.” What we have now is an ever-growing bureaucracy that is slowly stripping its citizens of basic freedoms and wealth to pay for federal programs that benefit special interest; a Congress too busy pandering so it remains in gridlock and an executive branch that continually exceeds its power as outlined by the Constitution.
In one sentence, Ron Paul wants to give government back to the people.
The Democrats don’t like his message. The established Republican guard doesn’t like his message. Certainly, the Washington Beltway doesn’t like his message.
Yet Paul’s support grows. It is gradual, to be sure, and may not be enough to overcome the mainstream political machine. But as Americans hear his platform of limited government, lower taxes, secure national borders and a return to the constitutional form of government our founders built this nation upon, he is energizing the electorate. In state after state, Paul’s campaign is building momentum and empowering citizens to reclaim their voice in the American political process.
Many political pundits place Paul’s chances of winning the nomination a long shot — if there is any shot at all.
Perhaps. But we still believe that, in America, anything is possible.
Should he be elected, there is little question Paul’s initiatives for change will be stymied by those in Washington who are prospering on the status quo. At a minimum, with a Paul presidency, our federal government will not grow, our taxes will not go up and only a declaration from Congress will send our armed forces into harm’s way.
That, in itself, is a “change” worth voting for.
If we, the people of the United States, truly want to reclaim a more perfect union, Ron Paul is not only our best hope, he is our only hope for real “change.”
In the Republican primary for the president of the United States, the Daily Light strongly endorses Ron Paul.

The WDL is TRULY out of the ballgame on this one. Ron Paul is NOT a viable candidate.

Does this mean will get the Ron Paul Blimp Fly over?

The WDL’s endorsement of Ron Paul may have had nothing to do with candidate viability. It appears it had more to do with which candidate best represents the overall GOP philosophy in Ellis County.
I don’t believe the WDL was out to “pick the winner”. They were out to endorse the candidate most closely aligned with Ellis County voter (from a GOP perspective).

Ron Paul is a lost cause. He’s not electable nor does he have any chance of competing against ANY front running Dem candidate. He may espouse some of the “I wish it could be like this” thinking but reality wins out in this GOP voter’s opinon. I won’t waste my vote on Paul.
There’s actually NO GOP candidate that I feel is adequate enough to run against the Dems in 08. None of them with possibly the exception of McCain could motivate GOP voters. I puke (figratively of course) thinking about a HRC presidency. Four more years of Clintonian democracy leaves this voter cold. Obama reminds me a lot of JFK but I also think he’s watched the game films and is coached to “be like JFK”. I like Obama. He is what the Dems need at this time. Would I vote for him? No. His politics and record along with HRC’s is as left-wing as it comes.
This is the age of “media bits and bytes” and how candidates “look and feel” to voters. It really is style over substance IMHO. All the present candidates have taken lessons from ole’ Dick Nixon in 1960. Don’t look bad, keep to the platitudes and talk about “change”. What the hell is the mantra “change” all about? If asked, the Dems talk about tax increases, programs for every single group in the US and “cleaning up Washington”, plus demonizing ‘big business”. The GOP offers nothing better. They have offered the same old party line. Ron Paul may make more sense but guaranteed he will not be nominated nor could he bring GOP voters to the polls. He is not electable. He is like a mini-Ross Perot.
Paul is unelectable, and the rest of the GOP candidates must know they’ll come in a long second next year. Do I like it? h$%% no! Will I live with the GOP’s choice and support it? H$%% yes. The Democratic alternative is no alternative at all IMHO.

Granted that RP will never get elected with the number of voters that routinely turn out. Considering the power (or lack thereof) that the voting population actually has to elect a candidate that really speaks and acts the mind of the general population, speaking up by using your vote to show that a candidate like RP has support, is quite likely just the opposite of useless. Especially considering IMO, we waste a vote between two sides of an already predetermined coin.
My vote for RP is speaking up against the attempts to silence those like RP that present a message contrary to those minting the coin.
Faced with the current system, my vote for RP will be the only chance given to express the view that the pre-approved choices are wholly inadequate for real change.
But that is all mute, since I’m not voting in the primaries (and am not willing to become a short-term member for that purpose ). I will never get the chance to vote for RP. So all I can do is vote with a voice. The voice (vote) is never wasted.
