Candidates might publicly and privately dismiss me or associations with me, but there’s one person in this county that has access to the most lucrative voting bloc and our county’s future leadership: me.
Until candidates realize how very important I am, they will be wondering how in the world a packed Jimmy’s Pizza, Pasta & Subs restaurant in Midlothian was filled with young people ages 16-25 willing, ready and able to launch a youth voting movement. Though this was not overtly partisan, the group of young people I met with today will form the basis of a Young Republicans chapter.
Brian Thompson, a candidate for Precinct 3 county commissioner, is not only on board with this movement, but his campaign engineered the meeting today. Hats off to his wife for making phone calls after a meeting Wednesday night that sheriff candidate Steve McKinney skipped (this was after he promised to recruit and bring a legion of young people).
Nelson Baird, a candidate for GOP chair, was also on hand. He’s the only GOP chair candidate that has spent 1/3 of his campaigning time to talking to young people and bringing them in the fold.
I was surprised today. I walked in this restaurant thinking maybe three, maybe five people would be there. I asked if the young people assembled were for Brian’s campaign. I was told, “they’re here for you.” There was about 25-30 young people today. For this movement.
Keep that in mind, candidates, the next time you call me again or e-mail me again.
Those who hold this youth bloc in such arrogance and disdain (or plain ignorance) will be in for a very rude awakening come Election Day.

Problem with the youth vote is they bandwagon and say they are going to vote but will they really? Maybe Joey can get the youth vote back to the 60’s “when youth turnout was around 50 percent”-AP
