This is what I was waiting for weeks to finally break:

Sheila Hatfield, The Ellis County Press managing editor who suffered a massive stroke late last year, filed to run for Ferris City Council earlier today.

Her first target: Place 1 Councilman Rick Barrett - who, along with the solid-majority of the city council, voted to strip The Ellis County Press of its official legal status and publish notices in the Waxahachie Daily Light, who at the time had zero circulation (other than a few subscribers) in Ferris.

Hatfield, when she was at the paper, helped expose Barrett’s cover-up of an incident involving fired FPD Chief Jeff Cottongame and a 16-year-old girl, who the chief took on a taxpayer-funded conference; he later got her pregnant and took money out of a FPD account to pay for an abortion.

This incident was also not prosecuted by County Attorney Joe Grubbs‘ office.
