Tom McClintock days away from declaring for Congress

Libertarian Republican hero California State Senator Tom McClintock is now only days away of declaring his intentions to run for Congress. He is said by insiders to be heavily leaning towards the CD 4 seat left open by retiring GOP Congressman John Doolittle. McClintock is a longtime Advisory Board member of the Republica Liberty Caucus and close friend and ally of the Libertarian Party of California.

According to RedState.com: A poll last week showed State Senator Tom McClintock, arguably the most respected conservative in California, ahead in the primary of announced candidates, taking 44% to former Rep. Doug Ose’s 11%, and CRA-endorsed Rico Oller’s 6%. As a result of this poll, McClintock is now considering getting into the race (Link via governing.com).

Meanwhile the Sacramento Bee quotes McClintock:

State Sen. Tom McClintock, a former GOP gubernatorial candidate, confirmed in an interview Tuesday that he is eying the race and hopes to make a decision in the coming weeks.

“Obviously, it is a matter I take very seriously,” said McClintock.

The Thousand Oaks lawmaker, who said he won’t make an announcement this week, added: “I’ll have more to say about this in the future. But at the moment, I’m simply listening to people in the district.”
