Where Will McKinney’s Voters Go?

The April 8 run-off will feature what I predicted: James Ledbetter and his strategy to court the candidate who didn’t make the run-off’s voters.

That was the only prediction I made per se; I based it largely on the special election for state representative in the Fort Worth area recently in which six Republicans and one Democrat were vying for; the Democrat made the run-off and eventually won the whole thing.

But will GOP voters be kind to Ledbetter for running as a Democrat three previous times? They answered by giving him the run-off slot

Now it will be up to Johnny Brown to not only collect his base of support on April 8, but convince the 2,000+ Steve McKinney supporters to vote for him.

This will be a fun run-off to watch.

  • Johnny Brown will be the next sheriff, Ledbetter is a Democrat!

  • Brother, why don’t you let it rest…Everyone is tired of your same old same old junk….

You guys are going to have a tough time dealing with the reality of it all I know but it’s 2 against 1 now…

You and your goons blogged and blogged on Steve McKinney until you got him out of the picture but look he still has many many strong supporters just as well as James Ledbetter. They will have the last laugh but go ahead and continue your charades because you can’t bring down this candidate. He has ran a clean campaign and will continue to do so. He will be there in the end and the best man will win…

I would like to ask everyone to keep Mr. Weldon in your prayers in hopes that he has a quick recovery…

  • Brother, aren’t you the same one that predicted McKinney to win? You are a political guru aren’t ya!

Brown led a clean campaign, he didn’t go cut his opponents signs down, have his goons making threats, start bold face lies, or act indignant when he spoke in public. SAY WHATEVER YOU WANT TO SAY. THE NUMBERS DIDN’T LIE!

    Ledbetter is a Democrat!

  • haha you guys are hilarious….you are saying exactly what your boyz did like cutting signs down and everything….James is still losing signs thanks to your guys…imagine that…

you sure are quick to comment, do you do anything other than wait for responses on this blog??? Is that your assignment that JB gave you? Oh did he make you a promise of a job too???

THE NUMBERS DON’T lie, remember that brother….

  • The people of Ellis County who voted and will vote for James Ledbetter are basing their decisions on things that matter: credentials, experience, honesty and integrity. Based on experience alone, Ledbetter should win hands down. Voters who are informed will make the right choice. Here in this great country we live in we have the right to change our minds, be it our religion, occupation or political stance.

    Ledbetter for Sheriff :)

  • You are kidding right? Do you want to elect an old crusty guy who is going after the job so he can say he is sheriff and plans on retiring after one term (when he will be 72)??? Or do you want a middle aged seasoned veteran who has the same credentials, honesty and integrity as Ledbetter and a whole lot more to offer the citizens?

Ledbetter is out of time, in his last 10 attempts to run for office as a Democrat he failed so he switched parties to try it as a Republican this time. Johnny Brown did not have to abandon his convictions and beliefs for a chance at sheriff. He is a life long Republican.

Johnny Brown is the obvious choice for today and many years to come.

  • Again, the elected Republican Presidental candidate is 71.

Browns credentials do not match Ledbetters . Look it up.

James has many years of experience. (Without any added to try to sway the voters). With experience comes age. You, too, will be older one day. Wiser, I’m not sure.

    James Ledbetter for Sheriff.

  • Lets match up what Ledbetter and Brown intend to do to make ECSO serve the citizens better. What is Ledbetter going to do? At this point in the game he still doesn’t know. He just know he wants to be sheriff.

On the other hand Johnny Brown wants to do lots of things, and none of them are to promote himself or to be able to say he did it. He wants a better Sheriff’s Department to serve the citizens because he feels it is his duty to give the citizens a progressive and responsible department. That is what he thinks they deserve!

Look at his website and see the programs he will start for yourself.

    http://www.johnnybrownforsheriff.com

You are just anti-Brown for personal reasons. It has nothing to do with who will be a better sheriff. I know who you are.

  • omg, you say that when Ledbetter retires he will be 72. Ledbetter is actually 63 and will be 64 when he takes office in 2009. By predicting that he will retire when 72 you are conceeding that he will be the Sheriff for the next two terms. Thanks for your support.

  • Ooooh. (I’m chewing my nails).

    You make me giggle. ;)

    James Ledbetter for Sheriff

  • I am not making a threat. I am saying you don’t want brown in for personal reasons. Who will be a better sheriff doesn’t even factore in. I know you.

Sorry, I forgot I was dealing with a 2yr old

  • Ledbetter all the way!

omg, I encourage you to go to TECLOSE and pull Johnny’s records. He has not served in law enforcement for 20 plus years. He is a lier and will say whatever people want to hear to get his vote. He is a salesman not a Sheriff. If he is such a wonderful outstanding person like you say he is, then why has he been fired from different agencies and departments? I’m sorry he has been “asked to leave”. What’s the difference? He can’t keep a job. He has been moved from department to department too. Look at his bio he put in the WDL. He changes jobs like I change underwear! Do you really want a lier and a manipulator as a Sheriff? That says a lot about you.
Ledbetter is honest and he has integrity. His experience out weights Brown by a long shot. His loyalty and honesty dam sure out weights Brown. He is not going to be 72 in one term. This tells me you have no idea what you are talking about. If you do your research you might be able to talk little more intelligently.

  • omg, you are a burnt brownie for sure…you are not even right about Mr. Ledbetter, he is in his early 60’s and is nowhere close to 70 so get your facts straight..ohhh I forgot you guys love to lie, deceive, strongarm employees, and make false promises to people all over the county…the truth will set you FREE brother….may God help you because you guys have the serious need to repent after this whole ordeal…we sleep peacefully in our beds at night….because we do the right things even when the voters are looking…. James Ledbetter will be the chosen candidate from the voters of Ellis County….

omg, you are a serious jerk with no heart and I hope that one of your buddies give you up at some point….you are a fine example of a true Brown supporter…

The McKinney and Ledbetter camps have some genuinely good people in their camps and the voting public will see the differences between our camps and that of Johnny Browns’…thanks for all of your help though…

  • His MySpace bio says he’s 60, but it and his website list his birthdate as August 5th 1944, making him 64 when the next sheriff is sworn in, and 68 at the end of that term.

Goons? Burnt Brownie? Serious Jerk? I think some people need to learn to be “Do-Bees.” Mary Lynn Crow would be disappointed.

  • Amen Ledbetter to the end

Ace you have got it!! Thank you!
Yes the facts and truth will set you free!

  • Omg,

“I forgot I was dealing with a 2 yr old”? Come on.

If you are an adult with a brain AND a mind of your own, vote for James Ledbetter.

  • OMG, just please if you support Johnny Brown, just leave these childish people alone. Johnny Brown himself has asked that if you are one of his strong supporters, then PLEASE just leave it alone. 4600 people in the county know the REAL Johnny Brown, and know what hes capable of. Lets just wait til April 8 and let the voters decide!!! James is a great man, I have always said that, and I will leave it at that.

  • Ledbetter's the man!

    http://www.jamesledbetterforsheriff.com/index.html

That’s all that needs to be said.

  • That’s really funny JAG because you are one of the ones who got this all started first now you want to take the higher road….please…

We all know what Brown is capable of, that is why 7293 voters in Ellis County did not vote for Johnny Brown!!!!!!

omg and all of the other “Johnny Brown blog team “can’t let it go because they are addicted to this blog and love getting things started including you so good luck listening to what he has apparently said.

That’s funny how we now have 7293 voters in Ellis County who are childish and immature just because they haven’t bought into the smoke and mirrors, deceit, and lies in which Johnny Brown and his crew portray. God help us all if Johnny Brown wins this election.

Ray, he would be 63 right now turning 64 later this year….I would think that is a tad bit away from the 70 plus your buds are reporting…simple math…I’m not even going to address your comments about do-bees, sounds like something you could discuss with your dope cop buddies….

  • JustAgirl you’re right about the childishness of it. I respect your (and anyone else’s) right to vote for Johnny Brown. I don’t feel unthruths are necessary. James Ledbetter is a great person, and in my opinion, the best candidate for Sheriff. He is a hardworking, honest person with excellent credentials. He truly loves Ellis County, its Citizens and the Sheriff’s Department. I place my vote according to what is in black and white. Research shows that James Ledbetter (and Steve McKinney for that matter) are ahead of Johnny in the amount of time they have spent working in law enforcement (15-16 years more, I believe). It’s a position that requires experience. The more, the better, as far as I’m concerned. It is our jobs as ‘backers’ of James or Johnny to encourage others to vote for our chosen candidate. James has run a clean race. I’m sure he will continue to do so. That is the type of person he is.

    James Ledbetter for Sheriff.

  • Cueball — I merely pointed out that which you later repeated … the true age of the candidate. I thought facts might be preferred to name-calling.

I then inferred that some in the forum had no better communications skills than to call people names. Most of us learned in Romper Room that name-calling is impolite, not to mention immature. I’ve stated in other forums that elections are not decided in forums, they’re decided at the ballot box. That hasn’t changed.

Since you obviously prefer rhetoric to facts, and you claim as fact that which you do not know (I don’t know anyone on these forums except for Joey, and I just met him a few weeks ago at a Republican forum), it appears you want to hide behind a pseudonym and cause trouble, even with people who are making your point.

Surely you can find something more productive to do.

  • Calvin Michaels

Mr. Williams, all of this inmature name calling is coming from deputies of the Elllis Co. Sheriff’s Office. These are the people protecting us and our homes. I can’t wait for Brown to change things. I know, I know, now someone will come on here and call me an ass clown. Bring it!!!!!

  • Brother Ray, I just checked out your site and I would assume that this person is really you…you provided information which was incorrect so I wanted it to be factual, simply pointing out the truth to the matter. This site does promote aliases and not everyone can identify themselves for fear of retaliation, just another fact.

I personally am not sure who you support but I can assure you that the people of this blog have gotten a huge misinterpretation of the sheriff’s department. You have been led by a leash to believe that there are huge problems that need to be fixing. I would encourage you and anyone else in question to take a few moments to ask around and see what you hear. These deputies are professional and continue to do an excellent job every day even though there is so much turmoil right now amongst employees regarding their future employment here in Ellis County. Mr. Brown has promised jobs to officers all over this county and he has also claimed to the emplyees at the SO that he would not fire anyone either but now his stance has changed…I would say that these people are under a tremendous amount of extra stress due to this election which has split the employees apart.

Just because they have separate opinions on who they want to be the next sheriff doesn’t mean they are failing in their jobs which has been reported by some unknown bloggers….I encourage you to check around….I agree with you that we could do without the “crusty old man” comments and some of the others but brother remember this: this is a very important election when it comes down to whether or not an officer keeps his job or not…there are other factors to which the general public is not aware of…

I still don’t know who mary crow or the others you mentioned are but we can wait until another day…thanks for listening…

  • Mr. Michaels,

Thank you, but, yes, I know who they are, and they give the public such a bad image of a great department. They do a disservice to every good officer in the ECSO.

I can’t believe their obsession with “dope cops.” When I was on the city council, the only people who didn’t like narcotics officers were the ones using and selling illegal drugs. Drugs are responsible for most of our crime; get rid of the drugs and the crime rate will drop to the point that these officers will have time to visit forums while at work.

I can’t believe you haven’t sued the ECSO for defamation, but I’m glad you haven’t, as it would cost the taxpayers money. It would be a simple matter to get the e-mail & IP addresses of those posting with a subpoena.

I suspect the county commissioners will catch on very soon, and Knight will be turned into Day at the ECSO.

  • Mr. Williams, Calvin is one of the same using an assumed name so don’t be fooled by their deceitful tactics…

Their candidate, Brown-who they support so strongly, has publicly asked them to stop blogging several times and even reaffirmed that again this week according to Ms. JAG but do they stop, NO? He can’t even control them now and they are strong supporters, he is no leader of men…he is not the man we need to lead our sheriff’s department.

All you have to do is read the message, which side is more relaxed and sensible? The answer is simple: Vote for James Ledbetter!!!

  • When this entire campaign started, I had the mind-set that I was ready for some good changes within the sheriffs dept. and I thought that Johnny Brown would be the ideal person to take the lead seat. And to follow the lines of JAG – “I’m sure Johnny is a great guy.” But I voted for James Ledbetter and I will vote for James Ledbetter again on April 8th due to the fact that the Brown supporters (aka – the dope cops or the brownies as some like to refer them as) went WAY overboard on campaigning on JB’s behalf. I told JB this and I will remind him, the “PAC” president and crew really hurt him. The “PAC” committee mess was just that — a MESS! It is very wrong of the JB campaign to be advertising he has the Ellis County Sheriff’s Association backing him. Just a few of that committee voted — the entire association members were not given the opportunity to vote, but yet his campaign proudly stated he was supported by the ESCA. Very inappropriate!! Secondly, sticking JB signs in yards that homeowners/business owners did not request! Very inappropriate!! Third, every time you saw a JB “groupie” you literally cringed upon sight because it was JB this, JB that, JB JB JB JB JB……….ENOUGH! You guys have hurt his campaign by the CONSTANT talk and bash. I am NOT on this blog talking distastefully about JB in any form or fashion, but speaking directly to his supporters — you are hurting JB by the actions you are seeking. As I stated, I was looking forward to Johnny Brown being elected sheriff, but all the overboard campaigning that his supporters did made my decision to vote for a candidate that I saw very little to none of disrespect to the other men seeking the position. Sure, my one vote may not make a difference, but I may be the only one expressing my thoughts that so many others have stated and feel and did have vote in the opposite direction. So be very cautious and THINK before you blog. You just might say something that could do to others what you certainly did to me –voted for your opponent instead of being for your choice candidate!

  • Mr. Michaels,

Much of the immature name calling is coming from the Brown camp and began there. Call a spade a spade. “crusty old guy” & “2 year old”???

    Honestly.

James Ledbetter is the best candidate for this position. He has the credentials to prove it. Do the research. That is the way nominated positions should be voted upon. I vote for honesty, first and foremost. If a candiate will tell half truth’s about some things, why would they not do the same things in office. I want no one to make me empty promises and I certainly don’t want to vote for someone who has promised a job to many of his supporters.

Ledbetter is the best man for the job.

  • Calvin Michaels

cueball, you are so wrong. This is my name and not an aka. I am a citizen of Ellis County. I have not made it a secret that I support Brown because I believe this county needs a change and I believe he is the person to change it. Someone keeps saying that Brown has promised jobs to cops all over the County. I have not heard of one job promise. Is this just more rumors being spread or is there acrual basis to this statement?

  • Mr. Williams, I am certianly trying to be respectful to you but you guys are just not capable of listening to the voice of reason. You say one thing and then come back busting on folks for responding because they don’t respond in the manner you deem fit. Just not right.

This is America and many of us have fought for the rights we share and certainly the freedoms we enjoy. It is certainly everyone’s right to exercise free speech and this is one avenue for that.

It has been said before that you and everyone else are not forced to come onto this blog and read it or participate in it. YOU choose to do so…Joey hasn’t released any numbers lately but I would be curious as to the activity on this blog…

Let the people enjoy the rights we have while we still have them…it seems that we are losing them faster than the time it took for us to get them.

  • Not rumor brother Michaels, ask around…try asking someone not affiliated with any of the 3 candidates, get an unbiased answer…we are not all liars…

  • Very well said Dana. As a Ledbetter supporter I appreciate your honesty and the fact that you have expressed your feelings. Your one vote is very important and we appreciate it very much…

  • Mary Ann Crow was the KTVT sponsor of Romper Room, a show for pre-schoolers in the early 60’s. The name-calling reminded me of her show. Dr. Crow would surely not approve of your language. Does your mother know you call people names?

“Brother” Ray? (Actually, it’s “Honorable Ray …”) A change of tune? Did you finally figure out I’m not a 15 year old kid? I’ve had my name – and my URL – on my posts for weeks. Oops – another post – now I’m “Mr. Williams.”

“you provided information which was incorrect” — I challenge you to point out something I’ve said that’s not accurate. I pride myself in seldom being incorrect, as I deal with facts – not rhetoric. I also hide behind no one, as I have nothing to hide.

The site promotes aliases? I’ve never heard that from Mr. Dauben.

You once again proceed from a false impression, and at least you’re good at that. Re-read my web page. Do I sound like someone who would be lead around on a leash? Ask the city manager who was fired 3 weeks after I told him it was time to leave.

I can see there is turmoil within some of the department, but I suspect it originates with only a few malcontents. And those few, instead of dealing with issues (or their own insecurity) like adults, choose to get onto a public forum and degrade the citizens they are supposed to be serving. (If you’re worried about keeping your job, trust me – you’re not helping your chances with this blog.)

Do you honestly think I believe you are doing your job? Do you think I think you’re protecting me? Heck no – you know where I live – I’m monitoring my security cameras right now to make sure you’re not defacing my fence. (You can never tell when we’re home, because we keep our cars in the garage. And, simply pulling up to the gate sets off an alarm in the house. If you get any thoughts, trust me again – it’s not worth it.)

I’ve already heard some officers were caught posting on this forum using county computers. I suspect that’s illegal – personal use of county equipment. It’s somewhat like taking a dump truck home – they tend to frown on it.

I’ve spent countless hours riding in a police car; I learned a lot from that. I was in a situation one night where an officer asked me to be ready to defend him with the car’s shotgun – I knew where the secret release was, and I was already prepared. He had a teenager coming at him with a knife and talked him down. THAT was a real officer. He didn’t have time – nor the inclination – to air his petty disagreements with the public, and would never have called anyone the names I’ve seen on this forum.

I rode many times with a patrolman named Mike who taught me why power windows and FM radios were essential in a police car (I would have never guessed). He was later promoted to sergeant. You know him as Chief Moon. Ask Mike if anyone leads me around by a leash … he’ll laugh in your face.

And, if you think Johnny Brown or any other peace officer can tell any civilian not to get on the blogs, then I suspect you may abuse your power as a peace officer. I don’t need Mr. Brown’s permission, nor yours. But, I’m on my own computer, on my own time, and I don’t work 24/7 for the county.

I’ve helped manage a multi-million dollar budget, and I found areas to save so we could increase public safety and save on taxes, too. I’m not a peace officer, but 12-hour shifts in a patrol car were nothing for me. And, when it came time to vote – I had my facts. Not rhetoric, but facts. I was responsible for a lot of the growth in our police department, in both personnel and equipment. But I never would have tolerated any officer’s disrespect toward citizens, and I’ve seen too much of that on this forum.

Your latest entry blasts me for not listening, but I haven’t yet responded to your earlier post. Do you even know to whom you are responding? Do you realize how you sound?

Yes, you have freedom of speech, but you can’t yell “fire” in a movie theater nor say “This is a stick-up” in a bank. One also can’t call a person gay, especially if you’re a peace officer. Yep, one of the definitions of “ass clown” is homosexual, and I suspect Mr. Michaels could own about half this county in a lawsuit, as he has been called “ass clown” by quite a few posters who are obviously members of the ECSO. Think it can’t be proved? You’re wrong – I’ve done it.

How do you think an officer’s “ass clown” comments will look if they ever arrest a homosexual and are accused of discrimination? How will terms like “goons” and “jerks” will come across to a jury if you are ever charged of excessive force?

Do you think if you pull me over tomorrow that I won’t have this blog to hand to the D. A. to prove that you were out to get me?

I came here tonight to try to determine the mood of the voters. Instead, I found the same old ECSO whine & groan crowd. I’ve had enough. My tax dollars deserve better.

  • “you guys are just not capable of listening to the voice of reason.” The last time I looked, I was wearing only one pair of shoes. Unless you refer to my waistline, where do you get off referring to me as “you guys?” I haven’t pretended to speak for any other person on this forum, nor have I stated support for any candidate. And, yours is not the voice that sounds like reason – it sounds like paranoid rhetoric. Do you realize you’re just digging this well deeper and deeper?

“many of us have fought for the rights we share” – If you served in the military, then I thank you for your service to our country. Freedom isn’t free. You’ll also pardon me if I don’t think a veteran would call people names unless there’s an underlying problem. If you need help dealing with the stress of fighting in a war, there are agencies available to provide that help, and I’ll be glad to use whatever connections I have to assist you, and I mean that sincerely.

“you and everyone else are not forced to come onto this blog” – This is a blog that is accessible to kids. As a police officer, you set an example to kids, whether you want to or not. The example you’re setting is NOT what I want demonstrated to our youth. Don’t spew your venom in a public forum and warn everyone they should have stayed away. And, if you don’t like the potential of an election affecting your job, go to work for one of the municipalities. I honestly don’t think anyone’s job was in danger, at least not until you started calling civilians tacky names.

“Mr. Williams, Calvin is one of the same using an assumed name so don’t be fooled by their deceitful tactics” – Unless you have proof that is not the man’s identity, you are again presenting rhetoric in lieu of facts, and are again demeaning and defaming this man. Does he have a target on his back? Is there a special reason so many of you seem to hate Mr. Michaels? And, who is “they?” You make “they” sound like the boogey man.

Mr. Michaels – Would you please visit my website (www.raylwilliams.com), click on any of my businesses, and give me a call (I’ll be at work at noon) or send an e-mail? If you don’t mind, I’d like to find out why you’re such a target.

  • brother you have issues and who cares where you live…I feel that maybe you need some help or counseling for your problems because you are trying to take this conversation to a place to where it was never intended…going to your house, pulling you over, damaging your fence??? who does that and who said that??? Sure alot gets said on this blog but no one has ever made threats…are you ok? I’m not going to continue responding to you but brother you need to lighten up….and make better use of your time. Someone has filled your mind up with some issues that are very untrue and you believe them which is your prerogative but you my brother are doing all the spewing….God bless you!!!

I will gladly take note of your businesses that you speak of and make sure that you never get any of my business or anyone I know so thanks for making the point. I sleep just fine in my bed at night and don’t have to worry about cameras or security systems or anyone damaging my property…have a blessed day brother.

  • geese, I see you guys don’t listen well. I have said 100 times, I do not work for Ellis CO. I work in Dallas, I have no intentions of coming to Ellis Co. However I live here and my sons are growing up here. Therefore I want the best man for the job. I have followed bothh men since their campaigns inception. There is no question that Johnny Brown is the man for the job.

He has more training, energy and intuition. You guys that work at Ellis County SO that don’t want Brown know that you are going to be held accountable and will have to actually work for a change. Interesting idea isn’t it.

Ladies and gentlemen, the people against Brown here see the gravy train slipping away. DONT FALL FOR IT.

Look at both platforms, and the man behind them. Don’t let some 2 bit deputies that know their good deal and cushy job is coming to an end.

Johnny Brown will see to it your tax dollars are spent and utized with minimum waste.

  • he also will make sure we have extra training so that we know how to spell correctly when in public…

  • RW, you sound like a stressed out postal worker, why would I want to do business with you…I’m sure Chief Moon is proud of you this morning that you dropped his name under the bus…You might get a call from him this day…brother they have services in this county for those that need help…Ellis County even has a counseling center right there on IH35, check them out…

Oh yea, thanks for the info on the romper room cause I didn’t have a clue…I am glad that you are so up on the romper room politics but you sound like a bully who doesn’t like to share…I think I’ll take my toys to another room and find others to play with…

I will also make sure to tell my friends and family not to do any business with you either because I want them to make it home safely.

  • does that mean you aren’t coming back? yea!

  • Omg,

    “2 bit deputies”….more names?

    Seriously.

Training does you no good if you don’t stay in that particular job long enough to put it to use.

It is in black and white. TECLOSE…go see for yourself. James has got the training and the discipline to stay in his chosen field.

Don’t vote for a fancy sign or cute monkeys folllowing a ring leader. We all love a parade, but, do we really want to spend the next 4 years with the candy that was thrown stuck to our feet?

James Ledbetter. Vote for honesty and integrity not jingle bells and empty promises.

  • Your right, more years and is in the same rank as when he started. That showcases his ambition and skills.

I have looked at TCLEOSE, he has a few years than brown, big deal. If you take out the mandated hours for both of them Brown has many more hours than Ledbetter, you guys have your magic pencil and fuzzy math in high gear though.

I give you credit on the circus/parade though it was good comic relief, but that is what your camp is about. Laugh at the Ledbetters. ;)

    Johnny Brown 4 Sheriff

  • A few more? Your definition of the word “few” is incorrect. From Websters dictionary:

1 : consisting of or amounting to only a small number
2 : at least some but indeterminately small in number —used with a

16 years does not fit within that defination.

You are a hateful person, it seems. Let go of some of your anger.

You may “Laugh at the Ledbetters” all you want. It doesn’t surprise me. I, myself, will choose the high road. There are less bumps and nicer people.

“Have a heart that never hardens, and a temper that never tires, and a touch that never hurts.” Charles Dickens

James Ledbetter for Sheriff (where the folks don’t try to demean you).

  • Seems like in that time he could have made something of himself other than one step above bottom of the ladder.

I forgot he has lost 2 or 10 times in other elections, bit who’s counting.

Demeaning, whatever sorry the truith hurts your feelings.

  • Ace – you and cueball are the only ones providing information to me, and when I see venom spewing toward the public as you two have displayed, then I worry about my property. I can handle burglars; it’s cops with guns who perhaps shouldn’t be carrying them that concern me. You two have done nothing but try to pick a fight on this forum. How could you have the temperament to handle any type of dispute?

I’m glad you don’t have to worry about the security of your home – you don’t have any renegade sheriff’s officers making disparaging comments about you. You probably have a take-home security system, too, compliments of the county. I’ve considered buying an old police car and parking it on my property.

With the attitude you and cueball have displayed toward citizens, do you think I’d trust you as a police officer? Surely, you jest.

You and cueball haven’t darkened our doors for 20 years, but now I’m in trouble because you’re going to quit shopping with us. If you had shopped with us, you’d know that peace officers buy from us at dealer cost, so you’re threatening me with the loss of zero profit from two customers who’ve never been here, anyway.

Cueball – Once again, you’re dead right – you don’t have a clue. Only you would call a program “politics” that was designed to teach children to get along with each other and be courteous – and it’s obvious that you didn’t watch the program.

Two people are on this forum, hiding in anonymity, calling people names because they support a different candidate. I’m trying to get people to quit calling others names and act like adults, and I’m the bully?

If anyone cares, I believe the acronym is “TCLEOSE” – Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education.

  • “Seems like he could have made something better of himself.” Hateful , again.

James started as a Reserve at ECSO. Since that time he has:

    Held title of Chief Deputy

Held title of Chief of Police

    Held rank of Lieutenant

    Held rank of Sergeant

    Worked in Patrol Division

    Worked in Criminal Investigation Division

    Holds an Instructor License

    Holds a Firearms Instructor License

Holds a Crime Prevention Inspector License

Holds a Master Peace Officer License

    Officer of the Year Award

    Top Cop Award

Letter of Commendation from District Judge for Courthouse Security in a Capital Murder Trial

Letter of Commendation from District Attorney for successful investigation and conviction of a Murder case

Successfully investigated Capital Murder with conviction

Successfully investigated Attempted Capital Murder Case with conviction, within 2 days of the Capital Murder Case

Assisted with other murder and high profile cases, as well as supervising criminal case investigations

Letters of Commendation from outside law enforcement agencies for assistance on criminal cases

Letters of Commendation from citizens for assistance given

James has not ran “10 times”. Why don’t you try speaking the truth?

I never said my feelings were hurt. You might work on your comprehension skills.

Continue to go straight for the throat. Attacking a man personally is unnecessary.

When you fall off a cliff, though, you tend to grasp at whatever will keep you hanging on.

Support Brown, but, do so with some decency and morals.

    James Ledbetter for Sheriff

You should try the high road.

  • Concerned citizen

To ace and whatever, I am an avid Ledbetter supporter too, but you are lowering yourselves down to their level to the point even other Ledbetter supporters are disgusted. Knock it off and have a bit more integrity. Actions speak louder than words, just get out and vote and spread the word for others to vote as well. I’m all for having fun on the blog, but this is getting just plain stupid.

  • Concerned Citizen,

I appreciate your honesty and certainly do not want to come across in poor favor.

I simply hate the untruths and the personal attacks of a mans character. They are unnecessary.

    I will heed your advice.

Thanks for your support of Ledbetter.

  • Worked on cases… big deal, that is his job. Should he claim fame for doing what he is paid to do?? Uh no! When you have to list that you did what you swore to do as qualifications you got problems boy what a joke. I guess in that department you aren’t expected to perform your sworn duty??

Held title…Held rank…. can anybody but me see through that?? Why is he back on bottom rung of the ladder if he is so great?? Titles are words.

  • Cueball – You said you maintain your anonymity to prevent retaliation. Then, you and Ace promised retaliation against my business.

You do that which you fear from others (as I had the guts to identify myself and not hide) but want to make sure no one can do it to you. You remind me of the terrorists who refuse to wear a uniform and who attack from behind women’s skirts.

These are the men who are protecting our county?

  • my point exactly, we need change!

Not more same ol same ol

  • I would like to apologize to any Ledbetter supporter on this blog who may have the feelings that I have sunk to their levels. I agree 100% with concerned citizen and whatever, continue to fight the good fight..I just hate seeing them speak about our leader or his supporters in such a manner…We will take the high road and will have the last laugh…Vote James Ledbetter for Sheriff!!!

  • What are the voting times on april 8th? In Midlothian will it be at the Civic center?

  • OMG, Brown is considered a Gypsy Cop among career law enforcement professionals. He’s worked for small departments most of his limited career. He works here and there for short periods of time and then moves on to the next job. Kind of like a migrant laborer changing with the seasons as the crops come to an end. His longest employment in law enforcement is with the ECSO. Brown has never held any rank in any of the many law enforcement agencies he’s worked for. That is not one step above the bottom; it is the bottom. Face it he’s been an entry-level officer his entire career. That’s pretty sad for someone with 12 years and 7 months full time law enforcement experience. I voted for Steve McKinney, and now support James Leadbetter 100% as do many of the McKinney supporters. I know the Brownies attempt to discredit James by calling him a Democrat, but facts are facts. He came in second in the Republican Primary, which leads me to believe many Republicans support him. With the McKinney supporters now supporting James I believe he will be the next Sheriff of Ellis County. I have said throughout this election process that if I were not supporting Steve McKinney I would support James Leadbetter without question. Johnny Brown does not possess the qualities such as Integrity, Honor and Experience that are the foundation of a good leader. If Johnny Brown was applying for a Chief of Police position in a municipal police department even as small as the Red Oak Police Department. He would be cut before the initial interview process because of his lack of experience and education. The sad facts with politics are the only qualification required is breathing, and then it becomes a popularity contest. We as citizens must demand more from our next Sheriff and not settle for just breathing, or popularity or even because his wife is a nice person. We need to elect someone with proven leadership experience, Integrity, Honor and Courage such as James Leadbetter. Time will tell if the voters are going to use their vote wisely and cast them for a professional leader such as James Ledbetter or apply the just breathing rule and vote for Brown. VOTE FOR JAMES LEDBETTER

  • I second that Mr. Veterancop.
    You have done your research!

  • Thatis your rhetoric and it doesn’t appeal to anybody. Brown did leave full time law work a couple of times to run businesses in the private sector. Who can blame anybody that sticks their knecks out and goes all in to better themselves.

Fact is Brown made a sucess of his businesses and always came back to his love of police work. I admire the man for that. He has the ability and means to run sucessful businesses in the private sector and make them profitable. However he had a calling so he followed it. Now he wants to use his business know how and his love for law enforcment at the same time as your new sheriff. Johnny is a proven sucessful manager and a very capable peace officer. I believe that is qualities of a good Sheriff don’t you ?

On a personal note, I know how damn hard it is to run a profitable business. I can’t see you having that knowledge because, respectfully sir, you and Ledetter are in the same boat. You have only been a cop for your adult life. That may make you a seasoned veteran (self proclaimed ) but not an administrator. Johnny has both qualities.

Johnny has another thing Ledbetter doesn’t. He is young enough to stay with the department for many years to come.

Nice try but people have the sense to see what I say is right.

  • Sad attempt at covering what veteran cop said, when you get down to the nuts and bolts of this election…James Ledbetter is way ahead of brown in experience, integrity, and everything else….You guys continue to call him names and speak about age when you have nothing, it is obvious. Any undecided voters just need to ask around…get the facts…James continues to hold his head high and run an awesome campaign. His supporters continue to support him and don’t have to resort to lies and deceit. The records are straight and in black and white…James Ledbetter will be the next Sheriff of Ellis County… Vote for James on April 8th.

  • ECSO EMPLOYEE

    OMG,

I know you are trying to show your support for Johnny Brown, however Johnny has asked that his supporters stay off of this blog unless they have something positive to say. I am also a Brown supporter, but I will not lower myself to slinging mud at James Ledbetter.

I happen to know James on a personal level and think he is a good man. I have my reasons for backing Johnny however those are my reasons. Do the right thing and stay off of this blog unless you have something positive to say. Quit slamming James and his supporters, they have their reasons for supporting James as you do for supporting Johnny.

With that said I wish James and his supporters the best of luck and hope that we can all come together as one when this election is over.

Remember to get out and vote for your candidate on April 8th.

  • I will say this……..

How can you say that Ledbetters “supporters” have NOT lied about Brown? Ya’ll are the ones starting rumors that he was FIRED or excuse me, “asked to resign” from Midlothian PD by Roy Vaughn, when in FACT he was not. Ya’ll are the ones saying that he has promised people jobs, when in fact he has NOT! James Ledbetter cant even get his own age correct. On his myspace it says hes 60, but on his personal webpage hes 64.

Also, he was the Chief of Police for MAYPEARL!!! They probably have a $50000 budget, and what maybe 5 patrolman? He was also the LT of the reserve unit, not full time deputies.

Johnny Brown has also received letters of commendation from people for assistance given. I read where he received one from Fort Hood, Tx for assisting a soldier in his son in laws unit when he was going through rough times. Not only does that show that Johnny Brown cares for the citizens of the county he resides in, but he goes way beyond Ellis County to help people. Johnny Brown has a big heart, and will do ANYTHING and EVERYTHING for the citizens of our county. In the 9 years I have known Johnny, hes always been there for people. If it was 2,3,4am, and you needed someone to talk to, or something was going wrong and you didnt know where to turn, you could call Johnny Brown.

James Ledbetter is a very nice, respectable man personally. But we need someone in office that can be here for awhile, and not have to worry about having an ambulance on standby every single day.

  • JAG, you are something else girl…you had me going with your decent comments but then you throw in the ambulance comment…you guys just need to hang it up…Ledbetter is the man that will be elected by the voters of this county. He is the best man for this job and he will overcome all of the deceit which was brought to the table by the Brown camp…you probably don’t even know James….God bless you…

  • Re; cuebsll

Just a girl is dead on. Johnny is a great person and is of the highest moral values. He wouldn’t ever do anything to hurt anyone and goes out of his way every day to do things for people that are not as lucky as he is. He is a role model.

He wants to be sheriff for the right reasons, it is not another retirement job. He wants to help the cirizens of this county.

Johnny Brown will be a great sheriff.

  • I’m sure Johnny Brown has done something in his life to benefit someone not as fortunate as him…so has James…That is typical of public servants…I’m not saying that in a bad way either…

I know he goes to church which is great, so does James…

James is a role model as well and will be our next sheriff…you have to face reality here…you can’t overcome the facts that your guys have lied, spied, and tried to split every tie that was shared around this county… Johnny allowed Jason and his 2 buds to trump up a fake endorsement from the Ellis County Sheriff’s Officer association and then after it got chunked back in their face is when they claimed it was their little PAC, they thought they could just slide it through…it backfired….he accepted it and sent it out on fliers accordingly…what do you call that, a mistake??? No! it was planned months ago….they deceived the voting public portraying that the employees of Ellis County supported Johnny which is far from the case….now their guys are running around pissed at everyone and Johnny is making threats to fire everyone because it is not looking too good right now…he promised not to do that, what do you call that for honor??? Nothing right about any of this, there is and has never been anything of this nature coming from the Ledbetter camp and never will…

A vote for James Ledbetter is a vote for honesty, integrity, and experience which is needed to run this office…

  • ok ok ok

I must confess, I have met johnny brown on a couple of occasions both in and off duty. I can’t help but like him. I have gears wonderful things about him. I do hope he wins. Having said that I wouldn’t want to hurt his chances at election so this will be my last entry here ever.

I must confess its kind of like poking a snake with a stick or stiring up a hornet nest. I enjoy getting the idiots riled up. I am done with it.

Omg is 10-42. Aplaud now, I will on the 8th when JB wins.

    Bye bye!

  • haha good ridance but just like all the other times, you’ll be back ….Are you Brad E? Cause we know you don’t work in Dallas…BTW take JAG with you….ya’ll can hug each other on the 8th….love ya man…..cya

  • omg, you must have been working at Italy last night to be up that late posting, do they let you use city equipment for that??? just curious….oh yea don’t you live in Mansfield? You can’t even vote, right???

  • As I said at #26……..my point exactly has been proven. JAG – you can personally pat yourself on the back as YOU are the VERY reason I will NOT vote for Johnny Brown. That comment was very SICK and PATHETIC. And in case you haven’t got on the clue bus — you will one day be in your 60’s and need to remember – KARMA is a bitch! The age attack is a silly excuse. I guess at age 60, people are supposed to just pack their bags and head into the nursing home. Seriously – grow up! You have stated several times on this blog that Johnny has asked you guys to quit getting on this blog slamming candidates, and yet YOU are doing totally opposite of what he is asking. With that said and your mentality, James Ledbetter should be proud you aren’t backing him.

  • how did you know who I am or where I work? That’s hitting below the belt. I am done with this blog, I knew somebody would reveal my ID

  • James Ledbetterhead

hi yall! Keep after them damn boys! Were goingto beat McKinney U feel it?

  • I agree, I will hit 60 one day, and I will probably will be in the hospital. The ambulance comment was not meant to be rude. Its just the truth. James has done alot of work, and I know its a stressful job being sheriff. James hasn’t been feeling well the last couple of weeks, and its due to stress. His wife already told him to SLOW DOWN or hes going to have a heart attack. She was telling him that on Tuesday when we were all in Waxahachie. Dana, you dont even know Brown. You go off of what people say about him, and thats whats PATHETIC!!!!! Apparently you haven’t read all the comments Ledbetter supporters have said about Brown.

JackT, if you read the entire post on Waxahachie Daily Light, Brown had resigned from ECSOA when the campaigning started, that way NOBODY could sit there and say that he had something to do with it. He DIDNT!!!! The WDL actually verifies things before they post it unlike on here.

I’m going to admit that I’m guilty, I have said somethings that maybe I shouldn’t have. BUT………what I have said has NOTHING to do with Brown himself. Hes not telling us what to say, what not to say, hes focusing on HIMSELF, and his campaigning. There has been more mudslinging and yes some of it is slander on the sheriff election then there has been in the dang presidential election, and thats pretty sad!!!!!

  • oh btw JACKT, I know James Ledbetter very well. I’ve known him for the last 6 years. I’ve always said he is a great man personally. So dont throw it in there that I dont even know James.

  • someone who knows

someone should check joey dauben’s front yard and see who he is supporting in the sheriff run off.

me thinks that johnny brown’s sign in his yard could make this race DYNOMITE!

  • JAG — you dont know who I know and who I dont know! As I stated — STOP and THINK before you post!!!!!! You just might be VERY surprised at who you are actually conversing with. I do know the dept well and the two running for sheriff. And I do know who the groups are on here making the distainted comments. (And yes, I’ve read this site since this whole campaign began — But enough BS is enough!!) True, there were some attacks the Ledbetters did say that were out of line, but NOTHING compared to what the Brown camp has done! It’s utterly disgusting! Again, you should support your candidate of your choosing; however, it is not wise to slam others when doing so. As the ol’ saying goes, when you point a finger, there are always three pointed right back at ya!

  • James Ledbetterhead

when is mckinney going to take his damn signs down?
