ROISD: School Board Candidates

Steve Miller, the publisher of the Red Oak Window blog, let me down. He wasn’t in this list of school board candidates.

Red Oak ISD

Place 3

I-John Anderson
Elaine Holladay

Place 4
I-Barbara Vogler
Steven Prowell

Place 5

I-Henry Lozano
Brandi Prowell

However, the Prowell team might be a force bigger than Miller and a Keith Johnson team, but regardless, the incumbents on the Red Oak school board will have to answer for the allegations that have hit ROISD for a solid month.

  • I support the Prowells’ in any way possible-money signs, calls whatever it takes.
    Contact me!

  • There’s no way in hell I could win against the incumbents. Didn’t let you down Joey…I’m waiting until the next election so I can actually have a chance to win.

Look who’s up next time….I want to run against John Hawkins, Ms. Grandstaff, Stanfill or the good doc. They’ll have a hard time running on their tax increase and HUGE spending record plus a revolving door superintendency that was supported and then were thrown under the bus on three different occasions….the “corrupt” allegations won’t mean jack sprat when the campaigns start. It’s about records and these incumbents have done quite little controversy-wise other than raise my taxes TWICE since I’ve been here.
Running against John Anderson is futile IMHO. Barbara Vogler is an experienced educator and entrenched in the community. Henry Lozano is frankly a damn good board member. Good luck unless the Prowells have a in with the Shields and ROIntermediate community.

It’s time to work against candidates that are professional school board members and have been on the board WAY too long.
Elaine, I’d be glad to support you, put up signs, build you a website and make phone calls. LMK if you’re interested. You have my phone number and email. I can learn how the local board campaigns are done and figure out how to win that way.

Wanna’ get started now anyone? Next election is coming up next year.

Thank you Kieth for your support, with all the corruptions that has been happening at the ROISD. Brandi and I felt like it was time for a change. We both feel that the other Board Members John Hawkins, Ms. Grandstaff, Stanfill need to go! So if we do not succeed in this election we may have a chance to lay some good ground work for the election next year. Any support or advise in this May 10, 2008 election will be greatly appreciated. Please feel free to email Steven or Brandi Prowell at CityAutoTexas@aol.com

  • Power to the Prowells!
“Change we can believe in”…(oh wait, Obama already stole that from me)
I have no political acumen, but what ever you need that I can help with I’ll do…….

I truly appreciate your support in the upcoming election and look forward to meeting with others in Red Oak that want a change in the current Board. Good luck to the Prowells! I believe that by working together we can make a change for the better in Red Oak ISD. Embrace the Future, Remember the Past!

  • Elaine will do a great job and I believe will give Anderson some competition. She is long time Red Oak resident and former employee of ROISD. She has a great reputation in the district among faculty and staff. Supporting and voting in Elaine Holladay will go a long way in improving education for all students in ROISD as well as improving teacher-administration relations. Go Elaine Go!!!

  • Agreed Monica! John will be a tough opponent to beat!

  • I’m sitting here reading the transcript from our February 15, 2007 school board meeting when we laid out Ryann’s problems before the board.
When relating to the board that the aggressor girl was invited to the banquet, on page 41 of the transcript board member Brent Stanford asks “This banquet this girl is supposed to go to, had it already happened?”Standford is told it’s tomorrow night (Fed 16, 2007). Board president John Hawkins acknowledges on the transcript “tomorrow night.”
Stanford then asks “Is there a, uh, rule stating that if somebody is kicked off the team that they cannot participate in anything else to do with that team?” Burrow then chimes in telling Stanford that for the last 3 years dismissed cheerleaders wer allowed to go to the banquet. Burrow adds in the conversation that the girl isn’t going after all, but admits “It’s on her accord. It’s it’s her own choice…”
Starting on page 60 of the transcript, as we’re addressing the board and telling them that a child with a lessor support system may have crumbled, board member Lozano as “you mean like these kids could maybe suicide or like these kids taking ecstasy?”
These board members heard it all. Stanfill later confided to my wife that he knew they were being lied to but had nothing to go by.
After we discovered the constitution had been altered, Hawkins told my wife to fax the unaltered constituion to the superintendent.
After we caught the altered constitution, and did the faxing for the board and brought it to their attention, then and only then did they enforce the original contract.
That whole board knew what happened to my daughter, and the only action taken was essentially what we forced on them.

I sincerely hope Ms Holliday, Ms Prowell and Mr Prowell prevail in this election. All of the incumbents need removed, No other child should have to endure what mine did.

  • Stanford then asks “Is there a, uh, rule stating that if somebody is kicked off the team that they cannot participate in anything else to do with that team?”
I forgot to mention that our lawyer pointed out that there was a rule in the RO Code of Conduct handbook that states:” A student who is suspended from extracuricular activity events may practice or rehearse but may not participate in games or events.” Our lawyer said that the banquet was most certainly an event. Hello!!! The district violates, bends, and abuses its own policies at will. It’s outrageous & disgusting that we would have to go through three tiers of administration, hire a lawyer, and spend countless hours just trying to get ROISD to enforce its own policy! Who would believe it? Once again, out with incumbents!

  • Keith, get a life, seriously. This is like watching “as the world turns” the super boring version.

  • Gingersnap-then change the channel! There’s always American Idol!

  • I think Keith is illustrating a consistent point of view espoused by the Board over time.
Oh yeah…Ginger….The 3 Hour Tour boat left years ago. You weren’t on it…Gilligan is heart broken! :)

  • eight ball-did you read about Mary Ann (dawn wells) getting busted over a little Mary Jane?

  • Yeah I saw that on O’Reilly I think…I was bummed out. She was a babe..but in the immortal words of Ash (Bruce Campbell) in “Army of Darkness ” You got REAL ugly”…an old fart-ess tokin’ da’ ganja…what a dummy! One is supposed to GAIN some smarts as the grow older! :)

    From Scott Niven ROISD Super:
    ROISD Staff,
The attached file is a copy of a Press Release that will be distributed today regarding a recent data breach at Red Oak High School. We are still investigating the incident and cooperating with law enforcement officials, but the information in the Press Release contains the pertinent details to-date. I remain concerned about the recent incidents that our District has faced. I believe our District staff and students deserve to be recognized for the many positive things that are occurring. For example, yesterday I was privileged to be a part of the Red Oak ISD Educational Foundation Prize Parade. As we visited campuses, I watched as teachers were awarded educational grants to pursue innovative programs. Members of the community and local business owners were on hand to provide their support as well. The students at every school were excited for their teachers, but remained well-behaved and orderly. I saw yet again the outstanding program we have in Red Oak ISD.This incident provides an opportunity for each of us to thoroughly evaluate the electronic records stored in our respective computer directories. Protecting our records, both physical and electronic, is a paramount concern. As we conduct our daily business, we all must remain cognizant of the sensitivity of the information we utilize. Please be advised that allowing a student to utilize your login or work on a computer that is logged in under your staff account is strictly prohibited.
We have such great potential in this District. It is our responsibility to remain focused on the instructional needs of our students.
Thank you for your commitment to the students of Red Oak ISD, and I hope you have a restful Spring Break.
    Scott

    Attached Press Release:
    Red Oak Independent School District
    Press Release
    March 14, 2008
Late Friday March 7, 2008, Red Oak ISD officials discovered that a small group of high school students
obtained electronic copies of confidential district records. Since that time, the District has notified law
enforcement officials of this activity and has interviewed each student identified as having obtained such
records. The information received by the District indicates that the students gained unauthorized access to this
information through an administrative login belonging to a teacher. The teacher’s particular duties required
access to information beyond the typical teacher level. District administrators learned on March 7 that the
teacher, in violation of District policy, was allowing his students to utilize his login in an unauthorized manner.
The students discovered they were able to access sensitive District data, and a small group of the students
copied some of this information to their personal disk drives. Red Oak officials discovered the nature of the
breach by retrieving copies of these files from a student’s hard drive. Included in this information was a
historical payroll archival file from the 2005-06 school year which included personally identifiable information
for Red Oak ISD employees. Also included was a student critical alert file used to inform high school teachers
of potential concerns of their individual students.
District officials have worked cooperatively with law enforcement throughout the investigation. The students
were interviewed and their parents contacted about the data breach. Each student involved in the incident
returned the files back to district officials and agreed to cooperate fully by handing over their personal
computers and disk drives to ensure the information was disposed of properly.
There is no evidence to indicate the students used the information in any fraudulent activity. The District will be
considering potential disciplinary action in accordance with the Red Oak Student Code of Conduct for each
student based on that student’s particular involvement in obtaining this information. District officials will
continue to work with law enforcement as well in the event any criminal charges are filed.
The instructor whose actions resulted in this unauthorized access to District information is no longer an
employee of the District, and the administrative login has been disabled. Further, the Red Oak ISD computer
department has implemented enhanced security procedures to prevent a reoccurrence. All computer access in
the instructor’s former class has been halted until the investigation is complete.
    – END –

  • Elaine would be great.
the current board hasnt got a clue and are only in it for personal power and esteem.
the school system has been slipping for a while, and the board vjust kept making decisions that no one who actually worked or ran the school could understand.

they need new people all the way around, because currently its like watching c-span and the congress

Niven is working on a plan now that will decrease your property value! Ask questions! Call admin and ask what is going on. He did the same thing to his previous district. By claiming that Red Oak is a ghetto he will get more money to hire more friends from east texas..like his security camera team..no one in this area knew what they were doing so he had to call in a company from east texas! Have you noticed the long employeement list on the ISD website? It is not even summer and we have this many people missing??? People are being let go or jumping ship before they are dismissed. Teachers and staff are afraid to say anything against Niven, Humphrey or Flowers for fear of losing their jobs! Is this how you want your school district run? Nazis! Niven is not an educator! he is a corporate nazi! He does favors for his friends…like hiring their wives to work at the admin office. Speak up against the current leadership!

  • While we’re at it, let’s find out the test scores in Niven’s previous school district and the teacher student ratios. Why has the present school board brought a second rate inferior superintendent into a prosperous school district. Who’s watching the hen house folks, the fox? This school board handed this inferior Superintendent $90 m of your money and some of that money is being used to recruit his old buddies; our kids are suffering! It seems to me and to a lot of other people that there are plenty of people qualified right here in this district. Wake up Red Oak, let’s get some new blood into the school board, let’s get some accountability back into the system.

I went out placing political signs. I placed one at Randy’s BBQ here in Red Oak. Today Randy of Randy’s BBQ stated he had a catering BBQ set up at Red Oak Intermediate. Randy stated
he does alot of catering for ROISD. I stopped into Randy’s BBQ because my political sign was down. When I asked Randy where the sign was, he stated that he took the sign down because he got alot of heat from Ms. Hawkins at the catering event at the Red Oak Intermediate today and she told Randy that he needed to take the sign down because they didn’t not like the Prowell’s and they did not want us to win. Randy stated that, President of ROISD School Board John Hawkins, came in his business after he got back from the catering event and John Hawkins pressured him to take the sign DOWN! Randy said that he did not want to loose any business since ROISD was a big client of his. John Hawkins is not even up for election but I guess he did this so that the incumbents would win. Not that one damn sign matters, but to use your political office to force a catering service to take down their sign for an ROISD school board candidate. I feel this is highly unethical on the part of Mr. and Mrs. John Hopkins threaten this man that he will loose business and the schools business if he did not take down my sign. The people of Red Oak need to know what kind of corrupt people Mr. and Mrs. John Hopkins truly are!
