King of Spain Owns the Waxahachie Daily Light

This is not far-fetched to say, but the King of Spain is a partner with Cintra, the Spanish company reaping the 50-year-plus tolls in their contract for the Trans-TX Corridor; what makes this more interesting is that Juan Carlos also has a major stake in the Australian media conglomerate that bought 40 newspapers in Texas last year, including the Waxahachie Daily Light, the Ennis Journal, the Midlothian Mirror, the Ellis County Chronicle and the Italy News-Herald.

The WDL ran anti-TTC articles repeatedly before the buyout ($80 million was the asking price for these papers), and after, Publisher Neal White was demoted to editor and all the archived articles on the WDL website were deleted.

  • I can’t believe people aren’t more angry about this. The Macquirie Toll road company bought all these papers to hush opposition. Nobody seems to care…….

We citizens should boycott these papers so they whither away - and foster a free and independent press to take their place…..

  • The Ellis County Press and The Ellis County Observer are the only independent papers standing.

The WDL, while I agreed with their TTC coverage, was and never is and should never be considered as an independent source of news and information.

However, it is unfortunate that corporations can have that much influence over a local newspaper.

The only thing in the way of Gov. Rick Perry and King Juan Carlos in Ellis County is I guess Joey Dauben. :)

  • Well most people have no Idea what really is going on for several reasons. First, is the media, and whom owns the media? And whom directs what is and isn’t reported to the public? Second is Rick Perry and his attendance of a Bilderberg Group meeting in 2007. A meeting that goes on behind closed doors, and whom consists of heads of states, CEOs of the major corporations, Heads of the Major Media to discuss the issues of the world. Some of these same men have been known bohemian grovers. Why does the Elite want to hold secret meetings that that they can not or will not comment on the contents of?

  • 80 million is chump change compared to what they will extort the Texas taxpayers over the fifty year from its completion. Just imagine the ca-ching they are hearing.

  • BTW Joey, you have more than just yourself in this fight. I not going to let them destroy all that countryside in order get what they want. I don’t want to see that nature preserve behind bardwell dam pass into history. Imagine how our way of life is about to change. As my grandfather, bless his heart, used to say, ” I smell a storm on the horizon and its headed our way. “
