Midlothian's IRS Task Force Lt. Found Drunk

DeSoto Police Lt. Paul Pothen was found passed out in his vehicle after owners of a bar he was at called to inform him he left his gun inside.

Pothen became infamous for investigating illegal casino gambling efforts by DeSoto establishment politicians (Roy Orr, Richard Rozier, etc.) in the early 90s (see the archives of those good ‘ol days), but his co-workers in and outside of Midlothian and DeSoto say Pothen has been a “notorious drunk.”

Pothen was not arrested for public intoxication.

After the incident, which took place several weeks ago, Pothen was asked to voluntarily retire.

“There was a call from the [DeSoto] bar. Officers responded and when they got there, the people in the bar gave them Pothen’s gun while he was passed out in his car in the parking lot. The vehicle Pothen was in was reportedly a city owned vehicle (invoice it to the DeSoto taxpayers).”

The Internal Revenue Service operates a money laundering task force out of the Midlothian Police Department (the converted FBC-Midlothian building) that staffs federally deputized officers from DeSoto (including Pothen), Seagoville, Lancaster and Midlothian, just to name a few. Pothen was found not credible to testify in federal court years ago — but still allowed to testify and build cases in the task force, with others having to file the cases.

This incident has not been reported until now, but it’s been in the making for several weeks. Is this another coffin in the career of several Midlothian officials? Readers can decide for themselves…

Flashback: Has there ever been a time in which DeSoto officials and/or law enforcement were caught drunk in public? ;)
