Ovilla Now
By: Mayor Bill VansyckleThis column is a first for Ovilla, and me, and hopefully not the last. I will update you on the happenings in Ovilla with limited personal opinions.
On Saturday, June 27, I was invited as an honorary guest to the Flag Retiring Ceremony for the City of Oak Leaf. The ceremony was very moving and full of tradition. It brought tears to the eyes of everyone. Thanks Oak Leaf. Thanks Boy Scout Troop 109 & Pack 789.
Ovilla is preparing for Heritage Day set for September 26. We need vendors, bands, musical acts, and any groups wishing for space. Please contact the city at 972-617-7262 or visit our web site at www.cityofovilla.org.
Speaking of Web sites, Ovilla is enhancing their Web site to communicate with all, and offers water bill payments. Local organizations, such as the Garden Club and Service League, have direct links.
We are also bringing back a newsletter. This is to be sent out each quarter to all residents of Ovilla.
Many changes are happening in Ovilla. The new council is active in the issues affecting Ovilla and is bringing new ideas into action.
A special project is in the final stages in Ovilla. We are bringing a new design and layout to the old City Council Chambers. New is Paint, Carpet & Tile, Walls, Pictures, Chairs (visitors), Wood working and a different floor plan. This is all being done with NO city funds. All the changes are from donations and financial underwritings. NO CITY FUNDS and should anyone wish to honor someone then consider a donation in their name. A special plaque will be placed in the chambers honoring those who underwrote the work.
Please join us at council, which meets the second and fourth Mondays of each month at 7 p.m. at Ovilla City Hall, 105 S. Cockrell Hill Rd.
Column edited for AP Style and clarification only.
